<h1>Storage Tips</h1>
<h3>WHAT NOT TO STORE</h3>
<p>Any goods that are illegal, explosive, flammable, corrosive, toxic, environmentally
harmful, hazardous, perishable or that are a risk to property.</p>
<p> </p>
<h3>HELPFUL TIPS</h3>
<p>Inspect your storage unit monthly. Use all the space available, including
the height. Disassemble items such as bed frames and tables. Place frequently
used items near the front of the space. Fill containers to capacity. Partially
full of bulging cartons may tip or collapse. Heavy items such as books
or tools should be packed in small boxes. If a carton is too heavy, it
will be hard to lift. Fragile items should be cushioned by packing and
placed toward the top of the unit. Label cartons and take home the list
of the labeled cartons for easy reference when you need to locate your
property.</p>
<p>While self storage is suitable for nearly everything there are some goods
that were never meant for self storage - these include all goods that
are HAZARDOUS, DANGEROUS, ILLEGAL, STOLEN, INFLAMMABLE, PERISHABLE, ENVIRONMENTALLY
HARMFUL OR EXPLOSIVE GOODS. Please note that this includes all machinery
with combustion engines.</p>

<h3>Things to do before storing</h3>
<ul>
<li> Make a list of all the packing supplies you will need such as boxes,
tape, bubble wrap, marking pens, damp rid, rope, and pallets.</li>
<li>Visit the facility where you want to store your items. Take a list
of what you are going to be storing so that the manager can help you
determine the correct size for your needs.</li>
<li>Schedule your mover 30-45 days in advance.</li>
<li>Be sure to read the lease before signing it. Make sure you are aware
of company policies on moving out, paying the rent and other important
information. </li>
<li>If you are using a moving company, find out what size truck they will
be using. This is valuable in determining if your unit will be accessible
to that truck. Most moving companies charge more the farther they have
to carry your things.<br>

<h2>Do's</h2>
<ul>
<li>Use pallets, 2 x 4's, plywood, anything that will keep your items
off the floor of the unit. </li>
<li> Utilize all the space in your unit. Make a plan as to how you are
going to arrange your items. A good plan will save you the time of having
to rearrange your unit. Leave an aisle in the center of your unit so
that you have a walk way to the back of the unit. </li>
<li> Use freestanding shelves to help organize your unit. </li>
<li> Label the boxes on all six sides and keep a list for easy reference.
This will save you time if you have to look for something in particular.
When packing boxes fill them without making them too heavy to lift.
Always put the heavier boxes on the bottom and the lighter ones on top
of the heavier ones. This will prevent boxes from being crushed. Keep
boxes off the floor. </li>
<li> Be sure to store frequently used items at the front of the unit to
avoid having to search for them. </li>
<li> To protect your items cover them with moving pads, sheets, or light
blankets. </li>
<li> Be sure to check your unit once a month. </li>
<li> Disassemble items such as tables, bed frames, etc. (This will save
space.) Wrap and label all pieces for an easier time when you have to
reassemble them. Put all hard ware in bags and mark the bags accordingly.
</li>
<li> When you disassemble electronics, such as computers, stereos, things
that have numerous cords, place small colored stickers on the cord and
the same color sticker where the cord goes. This will save you the hassle
of trying to figure out what goes where when it comes time to reassemble
your electronics. If possible, use the original boxes to store your
electronics and other items. </li>
<li> Make sure that all appliances are clean and dry before storing them.
Leave appliances slightly ajar to prevent mildew. </li>
<li> If it is possible store couches on end. Stack chairs seat to seat.
12. Use the inside of appliances and drawers to store smaller items.
When stacking furniture use paper pads in between the items to avoid
scratching. </li>
<li> Store mirrors and paintings on end, not flat. </li>
<li> To prevent rusting rub a small amount of machine oil on metal tools,
bicycles, and equipment. Drain and clean all debris from all equipment
before you store them. </li>
<li>When wrapping collectibles or anything breakable, tape it after you
wrap it. This should avoid mistaking them for excess paper to fill the
box. Use bubble wrap or unprinted paper to wrap breakables. Group similar
items together and mark the boxes accordingly. </li>
<li> Clothing and draperies should be stored in wardrobe boxes, on hangers,
to retain their original shapes. </li>
<li> Purchase the insurance. If your belongings are worth storing, they
are worth insuring. </li>
<li> Rubbermaid containers or sealable freezer bags are great to store
your items. They have tight fitting lids and stack easily. Keep the
more valuable items in the rear of the unit. This will prevent others
from seeing them when you are in your unit. </li>
<li> Keep out of season clothes accessible, you may have your belongings
in storage longer than anticipated. </li>
<li> Be aware of your surroundings when you are in your unit. If you see
a potential problem or anything suspicious alert the manager.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Don'ts</h2>
<ul>
<li>Do not store any food items. This will prevent any unwanted guests.
</li>
<li>Do not pack your boxes so that they are too heavy to carry them. Especially
when you are packing books. </li>
<li>Do not assume that your homeowners or renters insurance will cover
your belongings while in storage. Check with your agent. </li>
<li>Do not use printed newspaper. The ink may smudge and get on your items.
</li>
<li>Do not forget to clean appliances before you store them. </li>
<li>Do not store any toxins or flammables. Such as paint, oil, or gasoline</li>
</ul>

<h3>APPLIANCES</h3>
<p>Fridges, freezers and other white goods should be thoroughly DRY and
CLEAN before storing. While in storage the door should be secured slightly
ajar. A deodorizer placed inside fridges or freezers is also a good idea
to maintain freshness. Don't place items inside fridges or freezers as
the shelves and linings can be easily marked and damaged.</p>
<h3>FURNITURE</h3>
<p>Empty the contents of wardrobes, drawers and cupboards to protect the
shelving and structure of these items. Clothing and personal goods should
be packed in strong secure cartons with some mothballs or similar product
to protect and maintain their condition. Where possible remove the legs
from items of furniture to avoid damage and save space. Clean food crumbs
from lounges to prevent attracting vermin.</p>

DISHES AND GLASSWARE</h3>
<p>Place a layer of packing inside the top and bottom of boxes containing
breakables. Protect fragile items by wrapping them individually in packing
paper. Fill any gaps with packing paper. This will keep your fragile items
well protected and prevent them from moving around in the cartons while
in transit. Label all cartons containing fragile items and avoid storing
heavy items on the top of these cartons.</p>
<h3>MIRRORS & PICTURES</h3>
<p>These items should be protected by packing material and stored standing
on their edges in an upright position (not lying flat).</p>
<h3>ELECTRICAL ITEMS</h3>
<p>Electrical equipment is very delicate and sensitive and should be handled
with care. The original boxes are ideal to repack in. However wrapping
items individually in bubble-wrap, packing them in cartons, and sealing
the top will offer protection for your electrical items. Remember to fill
any gaps in the boxes.</p>
<h3>BATTERY OPERATED APPLIANCES AND TOYS</h3>
<p>Remove the batteries to avoid damage from leaking.</p>
<h3>COMPUTERS</h3>
<p>Computers need special care. The original boxes are highly recommended
for packing. However bubble-wrap and good quality packing cartons will
protect your computer. Remember to use some packing paper in the bottom
and top of cartons. This provides extra protection. If you are unsure
about your computer, refer to the manufacturer's manual, or consult your
retailer, especially if storing for longer than six months.</p>

<h2>Planning For Storage</h2>
<p>As a general rule place large, heavy items that you can stack upon at
the rear of the space. Then work forwards and upwards with lighter, fragile
items. Place items you frequently access in front. Depending on the goods
you have stored, you may need to allow for walkways. Packing in professional
storage cartons will make the storing and unpacking easier and safer,
eliminating crushed boxes and damaged goods. Professional packing and
storage accessories will provide your goods with the preparation they
need for storage and maintain their condition for the term of the storage.

<h3>WHAT CAN I STORE?</h3>
<p>If it can be moved, it can usually be stored. Just use good common sense
and remember that our units are not heated or cooled. Furniture, books,
files, some building materials, commercial stock - just about anything
from a few boxes to a full house of furniture. Items, which do not meet
requirements for safety are not, permitted into storage, such as flammables,
hazardous materials etc, and your lease lists these in detail. Check with
managers if you are in doubt about any item.<br>

<h3>HOW MUCH SPACE DO I NEED?</h3>
<p>Because everybody is different we offer a variety of individual space
sizes. The facility manager can generally help you work out the best size
for you. Things to take into consideration are - how accessible do you
want the goods to be? How often will I need to access the space? What
do I want to use the space for? All these issues will affect the amount
of space that is ideal for you. Always discuss your needs with the storage
center manager, as they may be able to suggest ways of utilizing your
space better.<br>

<h3>HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?</h3>
<p>What you pay for depends on the size of the space you need. We offer
a range of convenient payment methods, including monthly, quarterly, and

<h3>WHAT ABOUT INSURANCE?</h3>
<p>While your goods are in self storage they are NOT COVERED by the owner
of the center for loss or damage. Fox Self Storage strongly recommends
that ALL customers contact their insurance agent to determine the coverage

<h3>WHAT IF I HAVE A HOUSEHOLD CONTENTS POLICY OR OTHER INSURANCE COVERAGE?</h3>
<p>Don't assume ANY EXISTING policy will automatically cover your goods

policy is suitable for covering your goods in self storage.<br>

<h3>WILL MY GOODS BE SAFE?</h3>
<p>Unfortunately there are no guarantees in today's world and incidents
of accidental or deliberate nature are an unfortunate fact of life. Insurance

insurance carriers vary. PLEASE check with you agent to insure that you
